March Newsletter 2023

enrich

Verb

: to make rich or richer especially by the addition or increase of some desirable quality, attribute, or ingredient

Every year we choose a word to focus on at the club. This year our word is ENRICH. How do we enrich the life of our members, our staff and ourselves? What does that mean for the club? We plan to bring people together by adding more programs and social events, adding new group exercise classes, communicating better with our members and supporting you on your journey to better health.

You will see this word posted at the front desk as a reminder to take time each day to do something that makes your or someone else's life richer, better or simply more manageable. As we challenge our staff to focus on this word each day, come join us to help make each day a little easier and filled with moments of joy for all of us!

Join the WAC March Madness Bracket and Win Prizes!

It's my favorite time of the year again! March Madness is around the corner and we are creating our own WAC Bracket again. You have a chance to win prizes depending on who you beat (Peter, Miguel, Chris or Me) If this year is anything like last year's competition, you are guaranteed to win against me. Although I may be stretching it to say this will enrich your life, it will certainly be fun!

Members must create an account with CBS Sports. Then go to the link below (BEATANNREEDER2023) and create your bracket. Teams are added to the bracket on March 12 and the bracket closes at 3:00pm PST on March 16, 2023.

Welcome Emily Ackerman - Our New Tennis and Pickleball Pro!

imgEmily Ackerman is a recent college graduate from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where she played four years of D1 collegiate tennis and studied kinesiology. Emily grew up playing and training at WAC under Chris Dudeck for her 15 years of tennis, so she is excited to be back at WAC but this time as an employee!

A little about Emily: Outside of teaching tennis and pickleball, Emily is currently playing on the Professional Pickleball Tour and holds a ranking of number 18 in the world in Women's Pro Singles (DUPR) and is top 50 in the world for Women's Doubles. She is sponsored by the paddle company, Volair, along with other top pros such as Julian Arnold and Wesley Burrows. She was recently drafted into the Challenger division of the newly formed Major League Pickleball (MLP) league by the Chicago Slice which is co-owned by several former pro tennis players like Tracy Austin, Chrissie Evert, GiGi Fernandez, and Lindsey Davenport.

While Emily loves competing and traveling for professional pickleball, she is very excited to be at WAC to teach clinics and be available for private lessons when she is not on the road! For inquiries about private or group lessons, group clinics, and live ball clinics, or to demo some Volair paddles, Emily's paddle of choice, [email protected]

Miscellaneous

Ball mowers
Ball mowers cost in the hundreds of dollars to replace and should remain on the court they are on. To keep them out of the way, place them tight against the fence at the net line or tightly against the net post. This ensures they are out of the play area. Please do not push them off the court, down the step or anywhere else. If you are having difficulty moving them, call the front desk and we will be happy to send someone down to assist you. Our money is best spent on enhancing our facilities than unnecessarily replacing these mowers.
