June Newsletter 2021
What's Up @ WAC?
06.15.2021
With the anticipation of Tuesday, June 15 being the day California reopens its economy, we want to let you know we are aligning with the CDC and State of California protocols for mask wearing. Please click on the link below for recommendations from the CDC. Employees of WAC will continue to wear masks until Cal/OSHA updates their own guidelines.
It is important that we continue to make our club a place to relax while our members pursue their fitness goals. There will be members who choose to continue wearing masks even if they are vaccinated. Please do not make assumptions about why a member chooses to wear, or not wear, a mask. If you are uncertain of the guidelines while you are at the club, please speak with me if I am available, or set up a time with the front desk for us to discuss your concerns.
Read each section of this newsletter for any changes to our policies or reservations. We were given short notice from L.A. County Health about the new guidelines and we are doing our best to implement the changes as quickly as possible. We ask for your patience as we work through all the issues. I want to reassure you that we will continually review these updates and make adjustments as needed.

All tennis reservations will continue as they have always been. Masks are no longer required along the path for vaccinated members, although you are free to do what is most comfortable for you.
We are suspending our midmorning Tennis Ladders for the summer months
With the hotter weather coming and most USTA match play returning, we are suspending the mid-morning ladders until Fall. All evening ladders will continue. These ladders are a great way to meet new members and acquaint yourself with some of our longtime members, as well. Just register for the ladder via the mobile app or your member portal and WAC will set up the matches for you. Here is the current tennis ladder schedule:
MON 5:00 pm-7:00 pm (LEVEL 3.5) MIXED
TUE 5:00 pm-7:00 pm (LEVEL 4.0-5.0) MEN
USTA and VCJTA Tournaments are returning and we will be hosting some of these events coming up. Court usage on these weekends will be limited during the middle of the day but we do our best to minimize the impact on our members. The dates of these tournaments follow:
July 10-11, July 31-August 2, August 21-22, September 25-26 and the USTA Men's 45's will be October 25-31
Pickleball
The two new weekly Beginner/Intermediate Open Play opportunities on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:00am to 10:00am have been popular. We will continue to review registrations for our open play events and add more as needed. We are also reviewing additional programming opportunities and will update you as they become available.
There are no changes to the reservation system for the pickleball courts or open play.
Group Ex
I sent out a survey last week asking for your input on the types of Group Exercise classes you would like to see added to our schedule, as well as the days/times that work best. Please make sure you respond to all of the questions. We will review your responses and begin adding to our Group Ex class schedule as we are able to find instructors to teach.
We will continue with the reservation system and will increase the number of participants who can register for each class.
I am working with the instructors to determine when and what indoor classes we can start adding back to the schedule. These classes will take place in the original Yoga room located near the front desk.
Gyms
We will no longer require reservations for the outdoor gym areas. I am also working on returning the Technogym equipment, as well as the treadmills, to the indoor gym. This equipment is not meant to be in an outdoor setting and will ensure they last longer when we move them indoors. This requires professional movers and we are waiting for a date from them to complete this work.
We plan to keep the tent where the existing TechnoGym equipment is located and will determine the best use of this space for our members.
If you see any equipment that needs attention, contact the front desk, or me, as soon as possible so we can repair/replace it in a timely manner. Please continue to wipe down exercise equipment before and after use.
Locker Rooms
The indoor showers are now available to use.
Pool
With the summer months upon us, we are expecting an uptick in the usage of the lap pool. We are allowing reservations of up to 2 persons per lane. We will have Lane 3 designated as a "drop in" lane at all hours. All other lanes will allow for 2 reservations each. Please click on the link below to review the lap swimming etiquette so you know what is expected when you share a lane. We want to make sure all our members are able to make a swim reservation and this requires opening up the pool to allow for as many swimmers as possible. We do not believe you will be sharing a lane everytime you swim, but be prepared to share on occasion. We will continue to monitor these reservations and make any changes as needed.
Whenever possible, it will help to have family members swim in the same lane. You can set this up by having one family member make the reservation, with both planning to swim in that lane during that time. You may also try to make the reservation at the same time and in the same lane by choosing Lane #A and same Lane #B. You can choose your lane on the mobile app by selecting "Advanced Options" on the swim reservation page, then click on "All Lanes" and select the lane number you wish to reserve together.

- The Jacuzzi no longer requires reservations and will be "drop in" only
- Masters Classes will continue as scheduled for now, but more swimmers are allowed to share the lanes. The Master coach will determine which swimmers will swim in which lanes based on your level and skills.
We have made it through a very tough year and we could not have done it without the ability of our employees to pivot on a moment's notice and the patience of our members. We want to continue to be a place of respite for you as California opens its economy back up. Please continue to be professional and gracious with both our staff and other members as we work through these changes together.
Warmest regards,
Ann Reeder
